EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Officials in Massachusetts and Rhode Island said that West Nile Virus was detected in both East Providence and North Attleborough.

Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and Rhode Island Department of Health said the virus was detected in a sample collected on Aug. 25, and that the risk for West Nile throughout the state was high.

North Attleborough officials, meanwhile, said that risk in the town was moderate.

RIDEM said that the risk for West Nile throughout the state was high.

RIDOH reminded residents of the following precautions to avoid mosquito-borne illnesses:

Put screens on windows and doors

Consider rescheduling outdoor activities during the evening or early morning

Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants at dusk and dawn
