VENEZUELA — In Venezuela, a family captured the moment when Venezuelan Neri Alvarado's nightmare ended, as he was greeted by his family and friends at home following his four-month detention in El Salvador's CECOT high-security prison.
“I am happy and in peace now. I can say that the trauma is over, and to be with my family has made all the bad to go away little by little,” said Alvarado.
The trauma he refers to began for him in Lewisville, Texas, where he lived as an asylum seeker and worked at a Venezuelan bakery. One week before his court appearance, on the morning of Feb. 4, ICE detained him as he was leaving his apartment to go to work.
