An abandoned pub that closed its doors 20 years ago in Sydney's west has been put forward as one solution to Australia's housing crisis after going viral on TikTok.

User @ubarnexsydney filmed a six minute video at the Ettamogah Pub, later known as the Macarthur Tavern in Campbelltown, with social media marvelling at the creepy abandoned space.

The tavern first opened in 1999 under its original name before closing in 2005 when the building it was in relocated across the road as part of the $160 million expansion of the Macarthur Square precinct.

A new pub then opened across the road from the street along with a revamped cinema which is now part of the Event chain.
