The Arizona Interscholastic Association is taking steps to improve safety for the state’s high school athletes.

Starting this year, all fall sports athletes must complete by the end of September an anti-hazing course and another on opioid and concussion education.

Athletes in winter and spring sports must complete those courses before they can try out for a team.

“It’s important to be proactive with this type of training so students are aware of the dangers of hazing and the outcomes that may go with it,” said AIA Executive Director Dr. Jim Dean.

“This will be another step to assist our coaches, school administrators and communities related to the important aspects of hazing and hazing prevention.”
