WASHINGTON — Congress will not vote on extending President Donald Trumps 30-day emergency order that sent National Guard troops to D.C. and federalized the Metropolitan Police Department. That's according to reporting from the Washington Post.

The news comes as D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser reiterated that she doesn't think an extension is necessary.

Bowser signed an executive order allowing indefinite coordination between local and federal law enforcement, so an extension of an emergency order is not needed to keep the federal presence in place in the District.

Bowser says the goal is to lay out a future beyond the president's order.
