Angela Rayner has resigned as Housing Secretary after it emerged she paid £40,000 less in stamp duty on a flat she bought in Hove. The Labour MP admitted making a "mistake" over the purchase of the south coast property. ‌

Rayner said she "thought [she'd] done everything properly" but was put under intense pressure over her tax affairs after they were widely reported in the media. Sir Keir Starmer had been asked if he would sack his Deputy Prime Minister following the scandal. ‌

But today, Friday, September 5, Rayner resigned from her cabinet position. They 45-year-old initially believed that she had done everything by the book, even though she dodged the extra stamp duty sum. ‌

She had removed her name from the deeds of her family home in her Ashton-under-Lyne
