A Macomb County judge said he took into consideration a man’s mental vulnerabilities when sentencing him to 15 years in prison for killing a young woman in a road crash that happened as he was fleeing police at a high speed.
Circuit Judge Michael Servitto ordered Angelo Rickey Smith II to serve 15 to 50 years in prison Thursday for the 2021 crash in Sterling Heights that killed Emmon Woods, 20, while Smith was running from police in a Jeep Cherokee that was among multiple vehicles stolen from a Washington Township auto dealership.
The prison term is lower than the 18-½ years to which he could have sentenced Smith under an agreement between the two as part of Smith’s no-contest plea to second-degree murder. Smith was originally charged with first-degree felony murder, which carries a mand
