United Airlines is adding two new routes this winter at Newark Liberty International Airport — and 13 other routes across the country — amidst Spirit Airlines’ bankruptcy.
One new route will fly between Newark Airport and Columbia, South Carolina, United announced.
The other will fly between Newark Airport and Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to the major U.S. airline, which uses Newark Airport as one of its national hubs.
"If Spirit suddenly goes out of business it will be incredibly disruptive, so we're adding these flights to give their customers other options if they want or need them,”Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said in a Sept. 4 statement.
