Israel said on Friday that it remains committed to a massive undersea energy cable to the EU, after Cyprus argued the project needed to be renegotiated and that Greece had failed to meet its commitments under the deal.
The €1.9 billion undertaking is designed to connect the power grids of Israel, Greece and Cyprus via one of the world’s deepest and longest submarine interconnectors.
However, Cyprus caused shockwaves earlier this week by stating that the project is not financially sustainable under the current terms. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides also revealed that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the project.
