KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– One person was potentially exposed to a rabid raccoon in Kershaw County, says DPH.

According to the SC Dept. of Public Health, a raccoon found near Tee Pee and Outlaw trails in Elgin has tested positive for rabies.

Additionally, along with the one person, two dogs were exposed and will be quarantined as required in the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.

The raccoon was submitted to DPH’s laboratory for testing Wednesday, Sept. 3,, and was confirmed to have rabies on Thursday, Sept. 4.
