MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Preliminary 2025 data has demonstrated a drop in suicide deaths in Mahoning County with the number of deaths at 22 in July—in July of 2024 the number of suicide-related deaths sat at 33.

Despite the downswing, Mahoning County's Mental Health and Recovery Board says awareness and advocacy are increasingly important to preventing suicide. The board is set to do just that through its "Change the Narrative" suicide prevention event on September 10. Along with featured speakers, a flower placement ceremony will also be held to remember the lives that have been lost to suicide in 2025.

The board encourages members of the community and survivors of suicide loss to attend the free event.
