GARDINER, Maine (WABI) - On Friday night, like many schools around the state, the Gardiner Tigers open up their football season.
This year, the team will be coming out to a new tradition that goes much further than the football field.
The last time the Gardiner Tigers won a state championship was in 2007.
One of the captains that year, was Brad Carleton who passed away in 2023. Tonight, a brand new Tiger head statue, built in honor of Brad, will be unveiled.
“He was never a person for the spotlight, really,” said Brad’s mother Stephanie LaPointe. “So, I just, I don’t think he would have realized how much it meant to everybody and how much he meant to everybody.”
