Tiger statue to be revealed in honor of former Gardiner football player

GARDINER, Maine (WABI) - On Friday night, like many schools around the state, the Gardiner Tigers open up their football season.

This year, the team will be coming out to a new tradition that goes much further than the football field.

The last time the Gardiner Tigers won a state championship was in 2007.

One of the captains that year, was Brad Carleton who passed away in 2023. Tonight, a brand new Tiger head statue, built in honor of Brad, will be unveiled.

“He was never a person for the spotlight, really,” said Brad’s mother Stephanie LaPointe. “So, I just, I don’t think he would have realized how much it meant to everybody and how much he meant to everybody.”

Brad was one of the captains of the 2007 state championship Gardiner football team. After that year, many on the team stayed
