Former F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo made a big announcement on Friday, taking on a new role as an ambassador for Ford Racing, while confirming his days behind the wheel are over.

Ricciardo was a fan-favorite driver who starred in Netflix 's Drive to Survive, featuring prominently in the behind-the-scenes show.

The former Red Bull man won eight F1 races, and at one time looked to be one of the fastest drivers on the grid.

He never managed to drive a title-challenging car, but he impressed enough to establish himself as Red Bull's lead driver for some years.

The Aussie moved around to different teams, most recently driving for Red Bull's junior team, Racing Bulls, where he failed to impress and get a Red Bull Racing seat.
