RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - On Friday at around noon, students of Open High School walked out of school advocating for gun reform.

“You can dismiss our pain, but you can not dismiss our power. We are loud, we are united, and we are not going away,” one student said to the student body.

“There was never a world before this, of which we had to go to school and wait for our lives to be taken,” another student said.

This was part of a nationwide movement organized by Students Demand Action . Three 11th graders: Lucy James Howlett, Kai James and Rose Woodward organized the 30-minute protest at the school.

They said while district has taken steps to make campus safer, like metal detectors and clear backpacks, it’s those very measures that remind students just how unsafe the world can be.
