ANN ARBOR, MI — The local father who was reportedly arrested by federal immigration officials after dropping his child off at an Ann Arbor elementary school on Thursday has been released.

In a statement issued late in the afternoon on Friday, Sept. 5, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement confirmed that ICE agents made an arrest in the neighborhood near Ann Arbor Public Schools’ Lakewood Elementary on Thursday.

“After further review, it was determined that the subject was not amenable to removal from the United States at this time. He was then promptly released from ICE custody,” the spokesperson said.

But the official emphasized that the incident did not occur at the child’s school.
