AITKIN — Voters in Aitkin will cast ballots this fall on a bond referendum that would result in the construction of a new elementary school if successful.
Two questions will appear on the ballot, and the first must pass in order for the second to be approved. Early voting begins Sept. 19, and Election Day is Nov. 4.
The first question requests $59.44 million over the next 20 years to construct a new elementary school for students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, along with a transportation center.
“The challenges for us with this location,” Superintendent Dan Stifter said, “is without bumping into the baseball field and moving the parking lot, we aren’t able to add the space that we think we would need.”
