The Alabama High School Athletic Association and Governor Kay Ivey met in court for the first time on Friday, Sept. 5.
The hearing at the Montgomery County Courthouse came less than 24 hours after Ivey and Alabama Speaker of the House Nathan Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against the AHSAA . The lawsuit is over the AHSAA's enforcement of eligibility surrounding transfers using the CHOOSE Act, which gives tax credits to families so they can use them towards tuition or other fees at private schools in Alabama. Any transfer using the CHOOSE Act must sit out a year according to the AHSAA.
