If you make it to the track or trail early enough in the morning, you might just run into Brock Tessman.

The new Montana State University president is well removed from his days as a collegiate runner, but the sport and the act of running are still meaningful to him. The early hours are when it’s easiest for him to get the miles in.

“Running is a really important part of my life, and it’s an important part of my role as president,” Tessman, 49, told the Daily Chronicle while watching a Bobcat football practice in mid-August. “There are practical constraints on my running given the job I have, and my duty is to our campus and to the state on any given day, but I will be a better president over the long run for MSU if I’m able to incorporate that into my day to day.”
