WATERLOO, Ill. (WJW) — An Illinois man was arrested and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm following the death of his 14-year-old daughter, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

David Schultheis, 34, turned himself into authorities after Monroe County State’s Attorney’s Office issued formal charges Tuesday in the case. Karen A. Schwarze, 58, is also charged with obstruction of justice and concealing a homicide and she is expected to voluntarily surrender herself shortly.

The shooting took place on July 21, with sheriff’s deputies and EMS responding to a Waterloo residence around 1:30 p.m.
