(Gray News) - Mark Volman, singer and co-founder of the rock band The Turtles and the music duo, Flo & Eddie, died on Friday, according to reports.

Variety reported Volman died in Nashville, Tennessee, following a “brief sudden illness.” He was 78.

Volman founded The Turtles in 1965, alongside Howard Kaylan, Al Nichol, Jim Tucker, Chuck Portz and Don Murray.

Their greatest hit was “Happy Together,” which was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks, according to Deadline. They would make the charts several other times with other hits such as “It Ain’t Me Babe,” and “Elenore.”

After the Turtles broke up in 1970, Volman and Kaylan became the music duo Flo & Eddie. They traveled with Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention and created background tracks for artists such as T
