An East Chicago man faces up to 50 years after admitting he killed a man following an argument just after the victim loaded a child in a car.

Christian Maldonado, 23, pleaded guilty Friday in court to voluntary manslaughter, a Level 2 felony, plus a gun enhancement. In total, under the plea’s terms, he faces 25-50 years in prison, filings show.

In exchange, prosecutors would agree to dismiss the rest of the case, including a murder charge, dealing in cocaine, unlawful carrying of a handgun and a misdemeanor. Judge Gina Jones would have to review and accept the plea.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Oct. 24.
