INDIANAPOLIS — When someone lays a loved one to rest, they hope their final resting place will be cared for.
A viewer reached out to FOX59/CBS4, hoping to look into the upkeep of Washington Park North Cemetery.
Every few months, Doug Jones comes to visit with his son and other relatives buried at the cemetery.
As he’s walked the grounds and visited other gravesites, he’s noticed how they’ve deteriorated over the years.
The 100-acre cemetery has thousands of grass-level grave markers made of granite and bronze.
Jones showed FOX59/CBS4 several gravestones that have been damaged by grounds crews and the use of large machinery on the property.
“The tractors put their digging arms down on these stones, and they crack them in half, bend the brass, break the stone,” Jones said.
