LYNCHBURG — Before a fourth-quarter onslaught salvaged Liberty football’s season-opening victory over Maine last Saturday, coach Jamey Chadwell said his team was guilty of “feeling things out.”

No such time exists anymore. The Flames make their first road trip of the season this Saturday to Alabama to face Jacksonville State, opening this season’s Conference USA slate against the defending champions.

“You can’t do that in college football anymore,” Chadwell said. “Everybody’s good. There’s a lot of parity. And so you have to come out of the gates faster.”
