ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. (WWSB) - Sea turtles appear to be done nesting for this season on Anna Maria Island, volunteer turtle watchers said Friday.

The latest news release from Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch says only 100 nests remain on the island’s beaches.

The group is continuing daily patrols for new adult crawls and checking on every marked nest. “We are finding a few hatches each day and inventorying every nest three days after the hatch is documented,” the Sept. 5 release said.

The group also reported an excellent emergence success rate (the percentage of eggs with hatchlings emerging from the nest) from nests this year.
