HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - The Trump Administration said it’s abandoning a proposal that would require airlines to compensate stranded passengers with cash, lodging and meals for flight cancellations or delays caused by the airlines.

Former President Joe Biden brought up the proposed rule during his final weeks in office last December. The rule would have required airlines to pay travelers anywhere between $200 and $775 for flight cancellations or significant delays.

President Trump’s administration said its plan to scrap the proposed rule is “consistent with Department and administration priorities.”

Travelers at Richmond International Airport did not favor taking the proposal off the table.
