SPOKANE, Wash - A fire early Friday morning destroyed the main concession stand at Avista Stadium but did not appear to damage the playing field and bleachers.

According to firefighters, the fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. That concession stand is a total loss.

Black smoke and flames could still be seen coming from the building at 7 a.m.

Spokane Valley Fire said firefighters initially aggressively attacked the inside of the stand, but the metal roof collapsed forcing crews to retreat and do more defensive work.

Crews were able to keep the fire contained to the concession stand and no injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.

The Spokane Indians posted a statement on social media, thanking firefighters.
