AUSTIN, Texas — Families who lost their daughters during the deadly Fourth of July floods at Camp Mystic gathered outside the Governor’s Mansion on Friday morning, wearing their pink “Heaven’s 27” pins.
It was an emotional day, as they stood alongside Gov. Greg Abbott as he signed several major youth camp safety bills into law.
“No parent should ever have to outlive their child or endure this kind of loss,” Abbott said. “Through these laws, we are doing more than just changing campgrounds in Texas – we are changing the future for our children and their families."
Abbott said Senate Bill 1, also known as the "Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act," is one of the most comprehensive bills lawmakers have passed in a while.
