(WSIL) -- Southern 7 Health Department (S7HD) confirmed a positive test for West Nile Virus (WNV) in mosquitoes in the southern seven county region of Illinois. This marks the fourth positive case of WNV in mosquitoes documented by the health department in 2025.

On September 5, S7HD Environmental Health Services reported the positive case was collected from a mosquito trap in Pulaski County. Previous positive cases were detected in Pope County on August 20, Massac County on July 24, and Union County on July 30.

Traps have been placed in each of the lower seven counties since May and undergo weekly testing through mid-October. No human cases of WNV have been reported in the region this year.
