WOOLWICH, Maine — A Rockland man is dead after colliding with a box truck in the opposite lane on Route 1 in Woolwich on Friday morning.

Around 4:22 a.m., the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash on Route 1 between the Montsweag Restaurant and the intersection of the Mountain Road. Both vehicles were on fire due to the crash, according to a news release from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office shared Friday evening.

Alex C. Colson, 38, was driving a 2022 Toyota Tundra northbound when he crossed the centerline into the opposite lane, officials said. A 2003 Freightliner box truck, driven by 60-year-old Scott Rice of Waldoboro, was traveling south at the same time and attempted to avoid a collision but was unable to do so.
