School leaders across North Texas are being held accountable for how well students are learning, thanks to the Texas Education Agency’s annual report card, which assigns A-F letter grades to campuses based on performance.

One Dallas ISD campus made a dramatic turnaround, raising its grade from an “F” to an “A” in just one year.

You can hear Shanitra Beck’s classroom before you walk in. 

“When she’s starting the lesson, it’s very hard to zone out,” her students said.

“I have to be engaged myself and excited about the lesson in order to get them more excited. So a lot of times I tell them, I say, ‘Match my energy. So my energy is up here. I want your energy up here,'” said Beck.

On the day we visited, that energy is on reading and making an inference.
