Drivers in the Sacramento area should expect major delays as Caltrans shuts down westbound Interstate 80 this weekend for demolition and pavement work. The 55-hour closure runs from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, through 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, between the I-5/I-80 interchange in Sacramento County and the U.S. 50/I-80 interchange in West Sacramento. Detours include I-5 and Highway 50, with local access via Harbor Boulevard and West Capitol Avenue. Nighttime closures will continue through Sept. 18, and the I-80 to Highway 50 connector ramp will remain closed 24/7. Caltrans advises airport travelers to allow an extra 30 to 40 minutes and reminds drivers to slow down in construction zones. The work is part of a $280 million rehabilitation project partially funded by Senate Bill 1.
