WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — The Candy Box has been the go-to spot in Westerly for residents and tourists alike to get their fix of sweets and treats since it first opened in the 1950s.

The Fort Road candy store is known for its handmade chocolates, fudge and other classic candies, according to owner Melissa Hall.

"The almond butter crunch is one of our specialties," she explained. "It's a recipe that came from my dad."

Hall's parents Roger and Jean Hall formally passed the Candy Box down to her last summer. Her father, who passed away three years ago, worked at the store for more than 35 years alongside his wife.

Though he was full of stories, there was one he always liked to tell, according to his daughter.
