President Donald Trump announced that the United States will host the 2026 G20 summit at his golf course in Miami .

"As we celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary next year, the United States will have the honor of hosting the G20 summit right here in America for the first time in nearly 20 years," Trump told reporters on Friday at the White House .

Trump planned to host the G7 summit at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami in 2020 before the proposal was scrapped over ethics concerns that his business would profit from his presidency. The summit was ultimately held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic .

Trump also confirmed on Friday that he will not attend this year's G20 summit, scheduled for this November in Johannesburg, due to disagreements with South Africa
