In the week leading up to the Friday night showdown against No. 1-ranked Laurier, Queen’s coach Steve Snyder warned his players about the Golden Hawks’ speed and proclivity for breaking big plays.
Snyder was too prophetic.
The Gaels hung in for two quarters against the defending OUA champions, but Laurier’s speed was the difference in the second half, the Hawks pulling away for a comfortable 47-32 victory at Richardson Stadium.
“They were able to break a lot of plays open,” Snyder said in the postgame. “Their speed and athleticism showed, especially in the return game. It could have been worse. We got bailed out a few teams by penalty calls earlier.”
