U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin has delivered her vision for the future of American national security with an address Friday in New York.

Slotkin spoke before the Council of Foreign Relations, laying out her views on keeping the country safe after holding town halls around Michigan to find out what regular people are saying. She said speaking to residents of places including Benton Harbor, she’s found Americans have one main concern.

“ Economic stress is impacting every aspect of their lives,” Slotkin said. “ No matter what we’re talking about, our discussions veered into the cost of living, trade, tariffs, and how U .S. policies could hurt the already struggling economy.”
