SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Missouri has eliminated sales tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products as of August 28th, joining 23 other states in this initiative.
The Missouri Department of Revenue confirmed that both local and state sales taxes will no longer apply to child and adult diapers, as well as certain feminine hygiene products such as tampons and pads.
Previously classified as luxury items, these products were subject to a state tax rate exceeding 4%. The rate is now a little over 1%, aligning them with essential products like groceries.
Honesty Griffin, a mother of an 8-month-old, expressed relief over the tax cut, stating it provides financial help to new parents.
"It's a big relief, especially to new parents." said Griffin, "It is definitely helpful."
