WILLIAMSTOWN - For the Shawnee High School football team, a whole lot of guts provided the first hint of glory.
It was the Renegades' collective effort that produced a hot-and-humid 24-21 victory over a much-improved Williamstown Friday night.
Shawnee's resolve was typified by its quarterback, Cole Anderson, who grinded out 150 yards on 27 carries, including the one he powered into the end zone from three yards out with 4 minutes and 19 seconds left in regulation, putting Shawnee (1-1) into the lead for good.
Said Anderson: "(Lineman) Luke Padulese's shoulder popped out just to protect my life. He really was a big help on that drive. I couldn't have done anything without my O-line. They were the reason we came back."
Anderson, Padulese and the rest of the Renegades finished things out.
