The Eagles announced Monday they have signed veteran pass rusher Za’Darius Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler now in his 11th season.

Smith has been out of football since March.

The move comes one day after the Eagles failed to record a sack in their season-opening win over the Cowboys.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Eagles placed fullback Ben VanSumeren on Injured Reserve. He suffered a knee injury on the opening kickoff Thursday night - the first play of the season. VanSumeren missed the last six regular-season games and postseason after suffering a torn ACL last year at a practice in late November.
