WATERVLIET, NY (NEWS10) -- The Watervliet/Heatly football team played host to Class D's Voorheesville to open the season on Friday night. The Blackbirds led heading into the fourth quarter, but the Cannoneers had the last laugh.

Trailing 20-14 early in the fourth quarter, Watervliet/Heatly's Jamir Thompson took the snap and powered his way into the endzone to tie the game at 20. Thompson converted the two-point conversion to give the Cannoneers a 22-20 lead.

After a quick stop, Thompson rattled off a long touchdown run to give Watervliet/Heatly a 28-20 lead. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.
