Ifind this letter to the editor — “D.C. Residents should thank Trump” Page A4, Aug. 31 — conflicting. President Donald Trump made a decision to send troops to Washington, D.C., to protect its citizens. Immediate reaction was needed.

Democrats are jawboning about allowing federal troops in their communities. Rightly so. The problem is these U.S. citizens are in danger because local politicians are not doing their jobs.

If Trump decides citizens on a nationwide basis are in peril, then what? What if he sends federal troops in to maintain law and order? Local political leaders then send local officers to challenge Trump troops. By shear numbers, Trump's troops prevail with it worse for both parties.
