INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Zoo celebrated a birthday Thursday.
Jabari, the youngest of the zoo's elephant herd, turned two years old. Staff members created special activities and treats, including watermelon and other fruits, for Jabari and the rest of the herd, while zoo guests got to join in the fun as well.
Jabari is a third-generation African Savanna elephant at the Indianapolis Zoo. He and his mother, Zahara, were both born at the zoo, conceived through groundbreaking artificial insemination techniques, the zoo said.
Zahara celebrated her 19th birthday on Aug. 31.
