Melbourne's best tram drivers are revving their engines as they prepare to represent Australia in the World Tramdriver Championship in Vienna.
Drivers Sally Burgess and Craig Maher will test their skills against the world's best as they compete amongst 27 teams at the inaugural event next week.
Mr Maher said that to be chosen from "a network of the size of Yarra Trams, with 1,400 drivers" was especially satisfying.
"To be selected was a huge honour, but more of a surprise," he told ABC Radio Melbourne's Raf Epstein .
The selection process was based on safety and performance criteria, which the drivers had to tick off.
"They picked us based off of our safety records and our performance for the year and how we get on with passengers,"
