In Idaho, our citizen Legislature meets part-time every year. Under our state Constitution, we start in early January and continue until we balance the budget and finish our work. We usually adjourn at the end of March or the beginning of April.
Legislators don’t set their salaries. That responsibility rests with the Citizens Committee on Legislative Compensation. Article III, Section 23 of our Constitution lays out the details. The six-member committee meets every two years. The governor and the Supreme Court each appoint three members. Committee members must be Idaho citizens and cannot be sitting members of the Legislature.
