WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is expected to attend the U.S. Open on Sunday, a White House official confirmed to Newsday on Friday.
Trump’s trip to Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows comes ahead of other reported sports outings in New York, including plans to attend a New York Yankees home game in the Bronx on Sept. 11, and the Ryder Cup golf tournament in Bethpage later this month. The three-day tournament starts on Sept. 26.
The president is expected to attend Sunday’s men’s singles final at the Open.
Trump’s last U.S. Open appearance was in 2015, months after he launched his first presidential bid. He attended a women’s match with his wife, Melania, and was reportedly booed by attendees, according to media reports at the time.
