Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner quit her government post on Friday (September 5) after stamp duty scandal — pocketing almost £17,000 in severance pay. The decision forced Sir Keir Starmer into an emergency cabinet reshuffle just days after launching phase two of his government.
But Ms Rayner, MP for Ashton-Under-Lyne, is set to cash in on her decision to quit as she will receive three months worth of ministerial salary in compensation payments , which works out at £16,876.
She could use it to pay off almost half of the £40,000 tax
