Summit Ace Hardware has been serving customers for a few weeks, but on Friday morning, Sept. 5 it made things official — cutting through a wooden board with a roaring chainsaw to celebrate its grand opening at 7400 SW 34th Ave. in the Summit Shopping Center.
The new store, which fills the former Natural Grocers space, brings the national hardware cooperative back to Amarillo with new ownership and a new location. It is co-owned by Megan Hamilton and her brother-in-law, Rustin Self, who also operate the Ace Hardware and Home Center in Portales, New Mexico. Both said expanding into Amarillo was a long-planned move.
“Ace corporate asked us if we wanted to come to Amarillo, and we toured the market more than a year ago,” Self said. “We really fell in love with Amarillo and wanted to be here.
