Growing congestion
Are city planners ignoring the dangers of infestation that comes with high-density living?
Just one bad tenant can ruin a whole building, according to the article A bugs gallery of pests (Aug. 29) about 85 Walnut St.
Already, most highrise owners have to fumigate every six months, and the Central Library downtown, too. New York city is swarming with bedbugs, cockroaches and rats coming out of the sewers. London is building a bigger sewer system to accommodate the 17,000 new dwellings downtown. Joy.
All of this congestion for what reason? Fewer cars to save the planet from carbon dioxide,
the stuff volcanoes blow out faster than we can absorb in 100 years? That’s why China doesn’t bother to control their enormous CO2 production.
