Leaders of Temple Beth Zion plan to have a forensic audit done after the synagogue's former finance director was arrested in August on embezzlement charges related to her previous work at a church in North Carolina.
Sara L. Marada-Vanness was on the job at Temple Beth Zion for about four months when temple leaders announced her departure to members, without further explanation, in an email on Aug. 29.
There's no indication that any money has been stolen or misspent at Temple Beth Zion, its leaders said.
Public records show that Marada-Vanness, 32, was charged with four counts of embezzlement by a charitable employee in an indictment on Aug. 11. A warrant was issued on Aug. 19. She was arrested in New York on Aug. 22 and was booked into custody Wednesday
