Parents concerned about their children’s safety getting to and from a new secondary school are threatening to pull them from class on the first day of term.
Chilmington Green Secondary School, in Ashford, opens for the first time today after an 18-month construction project, and now boasts “state-of-the-art” facilities.
In total, 450 pupils are expected to walk through the doors as the first-ever cohort, split over Years 7, 8 and 9.
Many of them have been taught at the school’s temporary site, in Jemmett Road, over the last two years.
But due to the new school’s isolated location - built as part of the nearby Chilmington Green housing development - parents have grown increasingly concerned about the safety of children who need to walk or cycle to the site, and the lack of public transp
