The eviction deadline for a boat club fighting for survival has been extended by a month.

Broadness Cruising Club has operated on the Swanscombe Peninsula since 1991 in the shadow of the former neighbouring cement works and, more recently, the now scrapped plans for the much-maligned London Resort theme park.

Since the club’s “gratuitous” land access was revoked on July 21 in a letter signed by Nicholas Katz, chairman of Swanscombe Development LLP, it has started mounting a legal challenge to remain.

The campaign to save the club has now received the backing of Thamesbank, a group of stakeholders and campaigners for the Thames, which champions its users and the environment.
